Comparison of gastrointestinal stability of isothiocyanates from Tropaeolum Majus L. Altum using in vitro and ex vivo digestion methods

Tropaeolum majus L. is an annual herbaceous plant and a member of the Tropaeolaceae family, which belongs to Brassicales order. It excellent source flavonoids, carotenoids, phenolic acids, vitamin C, it that contains glucosinolate glucotropaeolin. The major degradation product glucotropaeolin benzyl isothiocyanate known for its various biological activities. In this study, essential oil was isolated from seeds altum by microwave-assisted distillation analysed using GC-MS technique. Two compounds were identified, as one (97.81%), 2-phenylacetonitrile minor (0.80%). pure then submitted two-phase in vitro ex vivo digestion simulations. analysis performed GC-MS/MS technique showed greater stability after (97.57%), (73.47%) gastric phases simulated methods, compared (71.17%) (54.90%) intestinal phases. A similar trend shown isothiocyanate.
